Product Description

The Innerscan range of body composition monitors is the next generation in home healthcare developed by Tanita. Offering an in depth insight into the inner health of the user, clearly displaying changes on overall health and fitness levels. Using Advanced Dual Frequency Technology, in depth information can be provided about muscle mass, body fat, metabolic rate and physique rating. 5 SEGMENTAL READINGS are given - one for each arm, leg and the trunk area. The segmental results produced by the BC545 means that as well as giving total values for fat and muscle, the user can gain information regarding the breakdown of fat and muscle in any body segment.

The user stands on four footplates on the platform of the scale and gently pulls the hand electrodes that are conveniently housed in the base using retractable connecting cables. The monitor will then send a safe low signal from the 8 hand and footplate electrodes through the body. The resistance to the measurement (known as Bio-electrical Impedance Analysis or BIA) is then fed into researched equations to provide accurate and personalized body composition readings Designed for the dedicated sports and fitness person to assess the impact of any training routine on their total and segmental body composition, this totally unique product gives individual body composition readings for each of 5 body segments – each arm, each leg and the trunk area. The retractable hand-grips allow full body composition to be taken quickly and with increased accuracy. A calendar function is included, and comparison graphs show a history for each segment of the body and for each of the body composition readings, so that the user can see their progress, day by day, week by week and month by month over a 3 year period. The backlit buttons and animated illustrations are clear and user-friendly, and the scales come with batteries included and a 3-year guarantee.

Key Features:

  • Segmental Body Analysis - Allowing the user to analyze their results in greater depth by breaking the body down into 5 segments (2 arms, 2 legs and the trunk area). Segmental information is given on Weight, Segemental Fat % and Segmental Muscle Mass. This information allows the user to look for physiological and biomechanical asymmetries, while tailoring their training/fitness regime to gain the desired results
  • Body Fat % - Assessment of the percentage of total body weight which is made up from body fat
  • Healthy range Body Fat % - Every human requires a degree of body fat to perform basic body functions, such as thermoregulation, protecting joints and menstruation. The Tanita body composition monitor will compare measured body fat to the Healthy ranges for that age range recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
  • Total Body Water % - Water makes up on average over half of the bodies total weight. Guideline percentages are 45-60% for Females and 50-65% for Males. The ability to measure Total Body Water % (TBW%) is exceptionally useful as staying well hydrated is vital for both physical and cognitive performance.  As total body water can vary by as much as 3-4% throughout the day it is important to take readings at the same time every day.
  • Visceral Fat Rating - Visceral fat is also known as intra-abdominal fat, this fat is packed in between the internal organs. An excess of visceral fat, is known as a “pot belly” or “beer belly”, there are strong links between visceral fat and certain health related diseases such as coronary heart disease, type II diabetes and metabolic syndrome. The Tanita body composition monitor will assess Visceral fat levels in two categories.
  • Bone Mineral Mass - There is a close correlation between bone mineral mass and fat free mass (FFM), exercise and a balanced diet will promote increased bone mineral mass.
  • Muscle Mass - During an exercise regime it likely that while body fat percentage decreases, muscle mass will increase, meaning that total body weight may stabilize. Knowing information on muscle mass will give the user a clearer view on their overall health than simply taking body weight or using body mass index (BMI) calculations
  • 9 Physique Rating - The Tanita body composition analyzer has the ability to give the user a physique rating, based on their body fat and muscle mass measurements.
  • Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) - The number of calories your body needs when at rest. Metabolism speed is determined by numerous factors such as age, gender, muscle mass and body fat. It is possible to use this information to develop a fitness/weight loss program.
  • Metabolism Age - As you grow older basal metabolic rate decreases, it tends to peak at about 16/17 years old. Metabolism age is the comparison of the users BMR, to the expected values based upon age.
  • Athlete Mode - The measurement of standard Adult body composition have been calibrated against clinical readings taken from a representative sample of the population, most of whom have sedentary or only moderately active lifestyles.
When developing body composition equations, it was found that a different equation was needed to maintain accuracy in the elite athletic population. People who exercise at high levels over long periods of time exhibit differences in their muscle structure and hydration. Their muscle tissue composition may differ, there will be a difference in their water to muscle ratio and overall their bodies will be denser than the average person, as muscle tissue is denser than fat. If these people were to use the standard Adult mode on a Body Fat Monitor, their readings could be overestimated.
A specific Athlete mode was developed and calibrated against a representative sample of "athletes".
As a general guideline, anyone who carries out more than 10 hours of intensive aerobic exercise a week AND who has a resting heartbeat of under 60bpm should use athlete mode for accurate results. Athlete mode is particularly suitable for people in endurance sports like running and cycling and those in cross training.
  • Guest Function - Allows another user to also use the product, and not affect the saved results of the usual users
  • 4 Data Storage Memory - Store and track the results of 4 separate users- Over a period of 36 months  (monthly graph) or 52 weeks (weekly graph)
